My Approach To Your Family Photography
Natural family photography
From experience I have found that the best family photography comes from you acting natural.
I want you to feel relaxed while having your photograph taken, which is why I will take my lead from how you feel comfortable. I don’t want to be telling you how or where to stand (and I’m sure you don’t want me to be doing that either).
Feeling comfortable starts even before your family photography session. Decide on a location and a style that suits you, at home, outdoors or even try out my home studio. By letting you decide where you would feel comfortable helps you to feel relaxed in front of the camera and that is what I am looking for, relaxed natural smile and not forced ‘say cheese’ smiles.
It's all about you and your family
The most compelling family photographs are the ones that simply just happen. It’s those little moments that capture the essence of who you are.
Your family isn’t time spent as a photographer tells you where to stand and which way you should be looking. Being a part of a family is a bond between each family member, that interaction is what I love to capture.
The real you
I believe that being a family photographer is about capturing the ‘real you’. It’s about getting that natural look and not those ‘say cheese’ smile you had in your old school photos.
Unless you are having a studio session I will spend my time watching for ‘that look’ or a cheeky smile. Outside we could simply go for a walking and watch as the kids discover new things. At home I will wait, camera ready, as the kids play.
We can still get those group shots
Don’t panic there will still be time to capture those all important group shots that everyone wants to see.
What questions do you have?
What questions do you have?
Deciding on a family photographer is a big decision and it’s only natural that you do have questions. To take some of the stress away I have put together some of the common questions that I get asked.
Where are you based?
I live in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. However I am willing to travel around Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and all over the UK.
Are you insured?
Yes, I have both public liability and professional indemnity insurance which meets the requirement for most wedding venues.
I also have a full DBS check.
What if we can't make the session?
Things can always happen and I appreciate that. If you think you can’t make your family photography session let me know as soon as you can so that we can reschedule a date for you.
If you need to cancel your session, and not reschedule, that is fine. Just let me know and we will cancel it. Cancelling your session without rescheduling does mean that you will lose your booking fee though.
How far in advance do we need to book?
There is no limit on how far in advance you book. Some people prefer to book months in advance to make sure that they get the date that they would like. Others will leave it until the last minute to see what the weather is doing.
Leaving it though may mean that your preferred dates are already booked though. Weekends can get particularly busy and booked up early.
Can I ask for certain photographs to be taken?
Of course you can. It is your family photography session after all. Just let me know and I will make sure that these are taken during your session.
How many photographs will you take?
I tend to take a lot of photographs, usually 2-3 in the same position in case of people blinking etc. Your final gallery though will not show most of these images. The first part of my editing process is to take out duplicates of the same image and ones where the quality or look of the image is not right.
How and when will I receive my photographs?
After I have edited all of your photographs I will create an online gallery that you can view and share with your family and friends.
I usually get the gallery to you in under two weeks (enough time for you to enjoy your honeymoon). In peak times though it may but slightly longer.
Still got questions?
Making a decision on a family photographer can be hard at times. I want to make sure that you are making the right decision. Don’t rush it, take you time. Think of all those questions you would like to ask and send them over. I can’t say that I will have the answer for everything, however, I will do my best to answer your concerns.
